and Safety Policy Statement:
Highland Forestry
Ltd provides a large range of forestry, tree surgery, utility and
land management services. We aim to operate a successful and expanding
business by providing high quality services and achieving a reasonable
return for all concerned parties.
Our policy is to ensure that high regard is given to any environmental,
health and safety or social implications at all times.
Werecognise our responsibility and obligation to employees, clients,
customers, contractors, suppliers, the wider public and the environment.
We aim to comply with all relevant legislation and promote measures
to adhere to health and safety policy, environmental protection
and the social well being of anybody that may be affected by any
of our activities.
Our detailed arrangements are contained within our quality management
systems.
WE STRIVE
TO:
- Delivere
quality services to all clients and seek to achieve continuous
and ongoing improvements.
- Assessing
potential health and safety risks, environmental and pollution
risks, to employees, contractors, public and anybody affected
by our work to ensure that health and safety standards are achieved
as far as is reasonably practicable.
- We work with
contractors and industry groups to provide safe performance continually.
- Improve skills,
experience and development of staff and contractors. We provide
up to date information and training on technical and personal
skills and the skills required to implement this policy.
- Advise sustainable
forest management and working techniques in a responsible manor.
We recommend to clients that their woodlands are managed to the
UK Woodland Assurance standard. All of our contracted forestry
work to date has been carried out to FSC standards. We wholly
support the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and have contracted
extensively complying to an FSC approved group and resource manager
scheme.
- Recognising
rights of contractors to refuse work that they deem may be unsafe
or against the law, or may cause damage to the environment.
- This includes
work if there is any concern about personal or third party safety.
We have in place a specific policy on this aspect which is particularly
applicable to work undertaken by sub-contractors and on emergency
and call-out operations.
- We have zero
tolerance policy towards drugs and alcohol. Contractors are not
permitted to work or operate machinery, chainsaws or vehicles
whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol, this includes
prescribed medications which may cause drowsiness or affect working
ability.
FURTHERMORE
WE WILL:
- Be proactive
to prevent pollution and cause a minimal impact on environmentally
sensitive sites.
- Contract
local supplies and contractors wherever possible.
- Monitor,
audit and review policies on an ongoing basis to ensure the highest
possible standard in administration and policy development for
the overall benefit of all employees, contractors and third parties
affected by our work.
- Communicate
with the public, governing and advisory bodies, third party contractors,
staff and employees to ensure total satisfaction on all contracts
to all parties involved for the benefit of a complete and responsible
service.
- Follow necessary
guidelines as set out by the Health and Safety Executive and using
certain HSE publicated codes to collate our necessary paperwork.
We adhere to the Approved code of practice L21, Management of
Health and Safety at Work regulations 1999. ISBN 0 7176 27 179,
Management of Health and Safety in Forestry. We also use Operational
Guidance Booklet 19 - Chainsaw and Machine Certification, as published
by the Forestry Commission, as well as Operational Guidance Booklet
24 - Health and Safety - Assess the Risk.
